Centro Pecci: Metamorphosis
THE CLIENT
Centro Pecci Prato, a contemporary art museum nestled in the charming city of Prato, Italy, just a brief 45-minute journey from Florence, stands as a testament to the dynamic world of contemporary art. Established in 1988, this cultural haven bears the imprints of curator Amnon Barzel and the visionary industrialist, Enrico Pecci, who founded it in loving memory of his son, Luigi Pecci. Centro Pecci Prato is renowned for its diverse array of contemporary art exhibitions, comprising solo showcases, group presentations, and thematic exhibitions that captivate art enthusiasts.
THE CHALLENGE
Under the stewardship of the esteemed Main Curator, Elena Magini, Centro Pecci has extended an inviting opportunity for Post-Graduate students to craft an exhibition proposal that aligns with the institution's unwavering commitment to contemporary art. The call for proposals welcomes a broad spectrum of artistic media, provided that they are rooted in the realm of contemporary art.
THE PROPOSAL
Metamorphosis: Illuminating El Anatsuis Sculpture's
The exhibition is layed out through 6 rooms in the peripheral exhibition spaces of Centro Pecci. Each room within the exhibition represents a distinct stage in the transformative journey. The initial rooms envelop visitors in a mysterious atmosphere, with dim lighting that partially reveals El Anatsui's sculptures emerging from the shadows. Progressing through the exhibition, lighting gradually intensifies, illuminating details and textures, intensifying the interplay of light and reflective surfaces, creating fascinating reflections. The culmination of the journey occurs in the final rooms, where the sculptures are bathed in brilliant light, showcasing their grandeur and ethereal beauty, seemingly defying gravity as they capture and reflect light, creating a sense of movement and transformation.
